Susan Brekelmans

Senior Consultant at Benefactor Group

Susan Brekelmans is a senior consultant at Benefactor Group. Susan has over 25 years of experience in fundraising, communications, and project management.

Susan started their career in 1994 as a media relations consultant with Crosbie Communications. In 1996, they became an associate producer with CBC Radio. From 1997 to 2000, they were program manager for Peter Gzowski's Golf Tournaments for Literacy with ABC Life Literacy Canada. In 2000, they became lead, charitable sector relations with Charity.ca.

In 2001, they moved to Rogers Communications as manager of content development for Rogers Media. Susan left Rogers in 2004 to join the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation as associate director of fundraising operations, a position they held for 10 years.

In 2014, they left the foundation to pursue a career as a writer and consultant. Susan has worked with a number of charities and non-profit organizations on fundraising, communications, and marketing projects.

Susan Brekelmans has a BA in English Literature from McGill University. Susan also has two MBA's, one in Marketing, Non-Profit and Media Management from AHP Madison Institute, and another in Marketing, Non-Profit and Media Management from Schulich School of Business - York University.
