Benefit Kitchen: Data Analytics for Good
Benefit Kitchen is a healthcare technology platform that educates and empowers working families on what social benefits they are eligible for and how to access these benefits in order to rise out of poverty. In the U.S., there are currently 10.5 million families living in poverty and oftentimes, what they lack most in terms of receiving their eligible benefits is simply knowledge. And of these families, $80B in benefits are left on the table every year. In New York and California, only half of eligible families receive SNAP. And a mere 7% of eligible families receive all of the top three benefits (SNAP, childcare, and healthcare). Obviously there exists a great disconnect and an even greater need for a solution. Using our app- or web-based software, in ten minutes an individual can learn about their eligibility and dollar amounts for almost twenty federal, state, and local benefits. These categories of benefit eligibility range from Health, Food, Childcare, Education, Utilities, and Tax Credits. Benefit Kitchen's software has provided a quick and easy way for an individual to learn how they can potentially double their income. At Benefit Kitchen, we believe in empowering the individual with knowledge and helping to guide them to a happier and healthier existence. For organizations that want to introduce benefit-screening into their care management practice, our software can be hooked into third-party databases via custom‐skinned interfaces or secure, behind‐the‐scenes APIs. Each year, hospitals spend $16B on Emergency room “readmissions”, while insurance providers spend billions per year on supplier deliveries using systems that are archaic and inefficient. Our focus is simple: preventative care. And we strive to help create this for the individual.
