Jeff Phillips started their work experience in 1995 as an Auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers. In 2000, they worked as an Equity Research Associate at Morgan Stanley for a year. From 2001 to 2003, they were employed as a Consultant at Brand Finance. Jeff then joined Aviva Investors in 2004 as the CFO for the Asia Pacific region, a position they held until 2012. In the same year, they became the CFO at Bennelong Funds Management, where they are currently employed.

Jeff Phillips attended Geelong Grammar School from 1984 to 1989. Jeff then pursued a Bachelor of Economics with an Accounting major at Monash University from 1990 to 1993.
