Matthew Umstead

Matthew Umstead has a diverse work experience in various roles. Matthew is currently serving as the Director of Strategic Planning & Communications at Berkeley County Commission since March 2021. Prior to that, they worked as the Policy & Strategic Planning Coordinator for the same company from January to March 2021. Additionally, Matthew is the CEO/Founder of Umsteady Solutions LLC since January 2019. Matthew has also worked as a News Reporter for The Herald-Mail from June 2006 to January 2021. Matthew has held multiple positions at Shepherd University, including College Newspaper Advisor and Adjunct Professor from August 2019 to May 2020, and Adjunct Professor from January 2012 to January 2015. Matthew was a Senior Writer at Glittarazzi, LLC in April 2011, and a Reporter/Assistant City Editor at Ogden Newspapers Inc from December 2002 to June 2006. Matthew also has experience as an Instructor at Hagerstown Community College from August 2005 to May 2006, a Freelance Writer at Hagerstown Magazin from 2004 to 2005, and a Reporter at Observer Publishing Company from November 2001 to October 2002.

Matthew Umstead earned a Bachelor of Arts in History/Political Science from West Virginia University in 1997. Matthew then went on to obtain a Master of Science in Journalism from the same institution in 2000.
