Donghun Kim

Donghun Kim is a Computational Research Scientist at Berkeley Lab since March 2019, focusing on virtual sensor-based fault detection and control suite for heat pumps. Prior experience includes serving as a Research Assistant Professor at Purdue University from June 2016 to February 2019, where contributions involved the development of scalable model predictive control approaches, fast building energy simulation tools, and evaluations for various energy systems. Donghun Kim's research background also includes a postdoctoral position at Purdue University and work at the Korea Institute of Energy Research and KAIST, with expertise in system modeling, dynamic simulation, and CFD analysis. Educational achievements include a PhD in thermal systems and control from Purdue University, an MS in turbulence and turbomachinery from KAIST, and a BS in mechanical engineering from Pusan National University. Research interests encompass system identification, adaptive control, and model reduction, along with various collaborative projects on building energy management and control algorithms.
