Gang Ren

Staff Scientist (p.i.) at Berkeley Lab

Gang (Gary) Ren is a Staff Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where since August 2010, the focus has been on developing the Individual-Particle Cryo-Electron Tomography (IPET) technique, enabling the determination of single macromolecule structures without averaging, crucial for understanding macromolecular thermodynamics and conformational changes during chemical reactions. Prior experience includes a Keck Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, specializing in cryo-EM and lipoprotein structures from July 2006 to June 2010, as well as roles as a Research Associate at Baylor College of Medicine, focusing on cryo-EM and lipoprotein structure, and a Postdoctoral Fellow at The Scripps Research Institute, where the emphasis was on cryo-EM and membrane protein structure. Gang Ren earned a Ph.D. in Material Physics from the University of Science and Technology Beijing and holds both MS and BS degrees in Theoretical Physics from Lanzhou University.
