Michelle Newcomer

Michelle Newcomer is a research scientist at Berkeley Lab since June 2016, with a focus on understanding the functioning of watersheds, rivers, and aquifers in processing water and nutrients. Prior to this role, Michelle served as a post-doctoral fellow and a PhD graduate research assistant at UC Berkeley, where research concentrated on groundwater pumping in agricultural districts. Experience includes a visiting scholar position at UFZ Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research, developing sustainable water management strategies, and extensive work with NASA as a center lead and project manager, overseeing advanced research in hydrology and climate, as well as collaborating with various agencies. Michelle's academic qualifications encompass a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and prior degrees in Geoscience and Sociology with French.
