Ryan Melnyk

Ryan Melnyk is a Project Scientist at Berkeley Lab since January 2024, previously serving as Principal Bioinformatics Scientist at Infinant Health from August 2022 to December 2023, where Ryan developed pipelines for metagenomic profiling and built a comparative genomics database. Prior experience includes roles as Senior Scientist and Bioinformatics Team Lead at Pivot Bio, focusing on microbial data analysis from field trials, and as Scientist II in Bioinformatics at the University of California, Davis, researching the rice rhizosphere microbiome. Ryan's postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California, Davis, and The University of British Columbia involved applying bioinformatics to study plant root microbiomes. Earlier roles include a Graduate Scholar position at Bayer Crop Science and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Ryan earned a PhD in Microbiology from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BS in Microbiology from the University of Pittsburgh.
