Robert S. Murley

Robert S. Murley is a vice chairman and senior advisor of Credit Suisse and chairman of investment banking in the Americas. In addition to his leadership role within the firm, Murley is responsible for several of their largest investment banking clients including Boeing, Cargill, Aon, Deere, and Baxter. He joined Credit Suisse First Boston in 1975 and was named a managing director in 1984, appointed vice chairman in 1998, and appointed chairman of investment banking in 2005. He began his career in the New York office, and in 1983 he relocated to the firm's Chicago office. He served as head of the Chicago office from 1991 to 2005. In 1999, he cofounded the global industrial and services group, one of the firm's largest industry practices.

Murley serves on numerous corporate and civic boards. He is an independent director of Stericycle, Brown Advisory, Health Insurance Innovations, and Harbour Group. He is also a past director of Apollo Education Group, the nation's largest for-profit education company. Murley is a trustee emeritus of Princeton University and the Princeton University Investment Company, and his civic activities include director and past chair of the board of the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey; chair of the board of advisors of the University of California—Los Angeles (UCLA) Anderson School of Management; vice chair of the board of directors of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago; chair of the board of Lurie Children’s Foundation; trustee of the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago; and a member of the Economic Club and the Commercial Club of Chicago.

Murley received his B.A. from Princeton University, his M.B.A. from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, and his M.S. in international economics from the London School of Economics. He and his wife have three children and reside in Lake Forest, Illinois.
