Damian R. Lara

Damian Lara is an experienced professional currently serving as the Assessor for Bernalillo County since March 2022 and is actively running for re-election with a focus on enhancing the local economy, public safety, and education. As a Partner and Of Counsel at Calderon Law Firm LLC since May 2017, Lara has also held significant roles such as Deputy Director of the Economic Development Department for the City of Albuquerque from February 2021 to March 2022, and Deputy Assessor for Bernalillo County from June 2013 to June 2017, where responsibilities included managing technology systems and advising the elected County Assessor. Previous experience includes serving as Staff Attorney II for the New Mexico Legislative Council Service from June 2008 to June 2013 and as a Legislative Assistant in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2001 to 2003. Damian Lara holds a Doctor of Law (JD) from The University of New Mexico School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science and Government from Brown University.
