Daniela Schwarzer

Daniela Schwarzer is a Senior Executive and a member of the executive board of the Bertelsmann Foundation, where they oversee initiatives on Europe in the world, democracy, and societal cohesion. They served as the Executive Director of the Open Society Foundations in Europe and Central Asia from 2021 to April 2023 and were previously the Director and CEO of the German Council on Foreign Relations. Daniela has also held roles at the Financial Times Deutschland and Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, and they have academic ties as a senior fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School. Their work focuses on European and international affairs, democracy, and the evolving challenges of digitization. Daniela has studied and worked in various countries, including Germany, France, the US, the UK, and Italy.
