Ronnie Ramos

Editor in Chief at Better Government Association

Ronnie Ramos is the first editor in chief of the BGA and the Illinois Solution Partnership, an ambitious new collaboration to address the state’s urgent challenges through investigative reporting and solutions-focused journalism. Before joining the BGA, Ramos served as executive editor of the Daily Memphian and prior to that as the executive editor of the Indianapolis Star. He’s an expert in digital storytelling and subscription growth. Under his leadership, page views, digital views and online subscriptions grew substantially each year. Before joining the IndyStar staff, he was managing director of digital communication for the NCAA, based in Indianapolis. He was also executive sports editor and then a senior editor for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, executive editor for The Times in Shreveport, Louisiana, and managing editor for The News-Press in Fort Myers, Florida. Ramos spent 13 years at the Miami Herald, as a reporter and editor. He started his career as a reporter at the Milwaukee Sentinel. A graduate of the University of Miami, Ramos spent a year as a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University. He was a Pulitzer Prize juror in 2005, 2006, 2021 and 2022. He is fluent in Spanish and English.
