Miguel Fernandes

Miguel Fernandes has extensive work experience in the field of data science and neuroscience. Miguel is currently working as a Senior Data Scientist at BetterDoc since October 2022. Prior to this role, they were a Member at AI Guild starting from September 2021. Miguel also served as the Head of the Image and Data Analysis Facility (IDAF) / Data Scientist at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) from March 2021 to September 2022.

Before joining BetterDoc and AI Guild, Miguel worked at the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology as a Researcher/Data Scientist. During their time there, they conducted research in the Laboratory of Prof. Dr. Herwig Baier and worked on studying decision-making in zebrafish using various methods including high-resolution behavioral tracking, neuronal imaging, and machine learning approaches. Miguel also utilized machine learning algorithms to analyze both behavioral and imaging data.

In addition to their research roles, Miguel has also been involved in teaching and workshop instruction. Miguel taught at the Graduate School of Systemic Neurosciences - LMU Munich in 2018 and 2017, respectively. Miguel also worked as a Workshop Instructor at the Technical University of Munich in 2015.

Miguel has gained international research experience as well, having been a Visiting Researcher at the National Institute of Genetics, Japan in 2014 and the Unit on Behavioral Neurogenetics, NICHD in 2011.

Miguel'seducation includes a Doctor of Philosophy in Neuroscience from the University of Freiburg, where they conducted research in the Laboratory of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Driever. Overall, Miguel Fernandes has a diverse and accomplished background in data science and neuroscience.

Miguel Fernandes obtained their Licentiate degree (equivalent to a Master's degree) in Biology, General from Universidade do Porto. Miguel attended the university from 2003 to 2008. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Neuroscience from The University of Freiburg, completing their degree from 2008 to 2013. In addition to their formal education, Miguel has also obtained several certifications. Miguel completed courses such as "Managing Your Time," "Training Neural Networks in Python," "Productive Leadership," "Decision-Making Strategies," "Critical Thinking for More Effective Communication," "Speaking Confidently and Effectively," "Databases and SQL for Data Science" (from Coursera), and "Machine Learning with Python" (also from Coursera). These certifications were obtained between 2020 and 2022.
