Joy Pope is a grant writer at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta. Joy has also worked as the former director of the Decatur Book Festival and as a journalism educator.
Pope has always had a passion for writing and helping others. Joy started their career as a journalism educator, teaching photography, design, and interview skills to students. Joy also facilitated the production of a newspaper and a yearbook. In their role as director of the Decatur Book Festival, they were responsible for organizing and leading the event.
Pope is dedicated to their community and has arranged and supervised field trips to various locations, such as the Michael C. Carlos Museum and the High Museum of Art. Joy has also taught the students about civic art, gentrification, community resources, and activism.
Joy Pope has a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts, a Bachelor’s Degree in English from University of Oregon, and a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Joy also has a Certification from Poynter ACES in Editing.
Their manager is Paul Shenk, VP of Finance & Administration. They are on a team with Deborah Godfrey - Finance & Benefits Manager, Sharon Lockett - Senior Accounting Manager, and Julie Hope - Senior Grants Manager.
