Robert Schmedicke

Managing Director, Technology Development at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences

Robert Schmedicke is the Managing Director of Technology Development at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences. Robert has over fifteen years of experience in product development and management, technical writing, and grantwriting. Robert has a strong background in physics, biology, environmental science, and chemistry.

Before joining Bigelow Laboratory, Schmedicke was the CTO / Director of R&D at The Science Source, where they were responsible for all aspects of new product strategy and development. Robert also provided full technical oversight for all products, from elementary through university-level apparatus. In addition, they initiated and managed cooperative projects with researchers, engineers, and subcontractors. Robert also wrote, illustrated, edited, and maintained instructional materials.

At Bigelow Laboratory, Schmedicke is responsible for managing the technology development team and overseeing the development of new products and technologies. Robert is also responsible for writing proposals and grants to support the laboratory's research and development initiatives.

Robert Schmedicke is currently a PhD candidate at Syracuse University in the field of Evolutionary Ecology. Robert previously obtained their BS in Environmental Biology from State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, where they were also valedictorian of their high school class.

Robert Schmedicke reports to Deborah Bronk, President & CEO. They work with John Burns - Senior Research Scientist, Steven Profaizer - Chief Communications Officer, and Valerie Young - Chief of Staff.
