Pharmacovigilance Operational Leader at Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute

Dawn Long has extensive experience in the field of drug safety and pharmacovigilance. Dawn is currently working as a Pharmacovigilance Operational Leader at the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute since April 2021. Prior to this, they served as the Executive Director of Drug Safety & Pharmacovigilance at Paratek Pharmaceuticals from February 2019 to April 2021.

Before joining Paratek Pharmaceuticals, Dawn worked at CSL Behring as the GCSP Regions Lead Americas from January 2018 to February 2019. Dawn also has a significant tenure at Shire, where they held multiple roles. Dawn was the Head of Pharmacovigilance Integration & Administration, overseeing the integration of acquired companies and assets, managing the PVRM department budget, and leading therapeutic area Pharmacovigilance Scientist Teams. Dawn also served as the Head of Pharmacovigilance Scientist Teams and held the position of Sr. Director, overseeing behavioral health, regenerative medicine, and human genetic therapies.

Prior to their time at Shire, Dawn worked at Shire Pharmaceuticals as Director of PVRM Global Products and Senior Safety Manager, supporting global clinical trials and managing safety-related tasks. Before that, they worked at Kendle International as a Sr. Safety Specialist, supporting clinical trial safety for various sponsor companies and improving project and department budgeting review processes.

Dawn's earlier work experience includes roles at Abbott Laboratories as an IND Safety Specialist, CM Healthcare as a Clinical Coordinator for High Tech/Home Infusion Services, and Lurie Children's Hospital as a Family Care Coordinator in the PICU. Dawn has a strong background in drug safety operations, pharmacovigilance leadership, and coordination of safety-related activities.

Dawn Long completed their education in a chronological order. Dawn earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Nursing and Biology from Northeastern State University from 1989 to 1991. Later, from 2019 to 2021, they attended Seton Hall University School of Law to pursue a Master of Jurisprudence in Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Law & Compliance. Dawn Long also holds additional certifications, including a Project Management Professional certification obtained from the Project Management Institute in January 2018, a Negotiation certificate obtained from LinkedIn in October 2017, and they are a Registered Nurse, although the institution from which they obtained this certification is unknown.
