Jared Silverman

Head of Translational Discovery at Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute

Jared Silverman has extensive work experience in the field of research and development in the medical and pharmaceutical industries. Jared is currently working as the Head of Translational Discovery at the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute since 2018. Prior to that, they held senior positions at Kaleido Biosciences, Inc., where they served as the Senior Vice President of Research from February 2017 to December 2017, and as the Vice President of Research from May 2015 to February 2017. Before joining Kaleido Biosciences, they worked at Cubist Pharmaceuticals as the Vice President of Discovery Biology for a period spanning from June 1997 to May 2015. During their time at Cubist Pharmaceuticals, they led a diverse team of 40 members, including 16 Ph.D. level scientists, overseeing all aspects of discovery biology in antibacterials and pain. Jared was responsible for tasks such as target identification, assay development/validation, screening, compound characterization, and efficacy testing. Jared Silverman began their career as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Yale University from 1993 to 1997.

Jared Silverman completed their undergraduate education at Princeton University from 1982 to 1986, earning an A.B. degree in Molecular Biology. Subsequently, they pursued their postgraduate education at Harvard University from 1986 to 1993, obtaining a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics.
