Dr. Matthias Knecht

Dr. Matthias Knecht has extensive work experience spanning several industries and roles. Dr. Matthias began their career as an Intern at Fraunhofer Institut für Chemische Technologie ICT in 2002 and later served as an Intern at SEW Eurodrive in 2003. In 2006, they worked as a Visiting Associate at The Boston Consulting Group before joining McKinsey & Company as a Fellow Intern in 2007. Dr. Matthias then continued their journey at McKinsey & Company, where they held the role of Engagement Manager from 2008 until 2014. Concurrently, Dr. Knecht pursued their Ph.D. at Columbia Business School and Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg and served as a Ph.D. candidate from 2011 to 2012. In 2014, they co-founded and became the Managing Director of Zencap, which was later acquired by Funding Circle where they continued their role as Co-Founder and Managing Director from 2015 to 2016. Dr. Matthias Knecht is currently serving as the Co-CEO & Co-Founder of Billie, a position they have held since 2016.

Dr. Matthias Knecht's education history began in 2002 when they attended the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and earned a Dipl. Wi.-Ing. degree in Finance, Economics, Capital Markets, Supply Chain Management, and Operations Research. In 2005, they pursued further education and attended the Graduate School of Business at the University of Technology Sydney. This stint lasted until 2006. In 2010, Dr. Knecht enrolled at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, where they pursued a Ph.D. degree in Corporate Strategy, which they completed in 2012. During the same period, from 2011 to 2012, they were also a visiting researcher at Columbia Business School, where they worked towards obtaining a Ph.D.
