Bob Cao has a diverse background in engineering, particularly in the field of optics. Bob started their career in 1999 as an Optical Engineer at Lumentum, where they worked for two years. Bob then went on to become an Engineering Manager and Optical Engineer at NEXFON Corporation, where they contributed to the design of advanced fiber optical modules. After that, Bob worked as a Scientist at LS Technologies, focusing on projects related to miniature x-ray generators and laser-fluorescence based 3D display systems.
In 2005, Bob joined Arasor Corporation as a Product Integration Manager, leading a team in the development of an Integrable Tunable Laser Assembly. Bob then transitioned to BD Biosciences in 2006, holding various roles including Optical Engineer, Optical Engineering Manager, Senior Staff Engineer - Hardware Systems, and Senior Staff Engineer - Systems Development. During their time at BD Biosciences, Bob played a key role in the development of several products in the field of cell sorters and analyzers.
In 2018, Bob joined Complete Genomics Inc. as a Senior Manager, Engineering Research before moving to 10X Genomics as an Optical Engineer later that year. In 2019, they worked at a Stealth Mode Startup as the Head of Engineering before taking on the role of VP of Engineering at Namocell, which was subsequently acquired by Bio-Techne. Bob is currently working at Bio-Techne as a Principal Engineer.
Bob Cao holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Victoria. Bob also has a Master of Science (MS) in Opto-electronics and a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Precision Instrumentations, both from Harbin Institute of Technology. In addition, Bob has obtained certifications in Architecture of Complex Systems, Model-Based Systems Engineering: Documentation and Analysis, Models in Engineering, and Quantitative Methods in Systems Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
