Dr. Rickey Yada brings a valued academic perspective to collaborations with industry and government. He has extensive experience serving in an advisory capacity, and is currently a Board of Trustee member, Institute for the Advancement of Food and Nutrition Sciences based in Washington, D.C., an organization that catalyzes science to benefit public health. He is also Co-chair, Cascadia Innovation Corridor Sustainable Agriculture Sub-committee, working with groups in B.C., Washington and Oregon to enhance agricultural sustainability. Dr. Yada is also a Board Member of the Canadian Food Innovation Network, and the Canadian Agri-Food Automation and Intelligence Network, and serves as an advisor to the Riddet Institute (New Zealand), AgResearch (New Zealand), and Arrell Food Institute, to name a few.
In 2014, Dr. Yada was appointed Dean of UBC’s Faculty of Land and Food Systems, where he leads strategic planning related to academics and research. He was re-appointed Dean in 2019. Prior to joining UBC, Dr. Yada spent 30 years at the University of Guelph where he was a Canada Research Chair in Food Protein Structure, and held several leadership positions, including as Scientific Director of the Advanced Foods and Materials Network (Networks of Centres of Excellence). To recognize his many accomplishments, the University of Guelph granted him an honorary Doctor of Science in 2017.
Dr. Yada is currently one of the co-editors of Trends in Food Science and Technology, and serves on the editorial board of several journals.
