Maria Stenbäck

VP Intellectual Property at BioInvent International

Maria Stenbäck has extensive work experience in the field of intellectual property and patent law. Maria worked at BioInvent International AB as VP Intellectual Property / European Patent Attorney from September 2022 to present. Prior to that, they were the IP Director / European Patent Attorney at BioInvent International AB from April 2015 to September 2022.

Before joining BioInvent International AB, Maria worked at AWA for many years. At AWA, they held various roles including European Patent Attorney and Partner, responsible for Awapatent's specialist group for European Patent Law, and member of Awapatent's specialist group for life sciences. Maria was also involved in litigation as a member of Awapatent's specialist group for litigation. Maria started their career at AWA as a Patent Attorney in the internal training program in June 1994.

Throughout their career, Maria has acquired expertise in a wide range of patent-related issues including counseling, drafting and prosecution of patent applications, freedom-to-operate analyses, infringement and validity investigations, and opposition and appeal procedures before the European Patent Office (EPO) and Supplementary Protection Certificates (SPC) for pharmaceuticals. Maria'sspecialist areas include traditional pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, protein drugs, genetics, biochemistry, peptides, antibodies, food stuff, and polymers.

Maria Stenbäck has a diverse educational background. Maria obtained a CEIPI Diploma in Patent Litigation in Europe from the Center for International Intellectual Property Studies - CEIPI in 2011. Prior to that, they studied French and Italian at Lund University from 1992 to 1994. Maria holds a M. Sc. degree in Chemistry / Biotechnology from the Faculty of Engineering at Lund University, which they earned from 1987 to 1992. Maria also attended Per Brahegymnasiet from 1984 to 1987. Maria'searliest known education was at Attarpsskolan, Bankeryd from 1975 to 1984, although the specific field of study is not provided.

In addition to their formal education, Maria Stenbäck has obtained several certifications. Maria became an Authorized Patent Attorney in Sweden in 2011, certified by the Swedish Patent Attorneys Board / Patentombudsnämnden. Maria achieved the status of European Patent Attorney in 2002 from the European Patent Office. Maria also holds the certification of Swedish Authorized IP Attorney, awarded by the Swedish Intellectual Property (IP) Attorneys Association in an unspecified year.
