Head Of Peripheral Interface Neuromodulation Team (pint) at Bionics Institute

Sophie Payne is an accomplished researcher with extensive experience in the field of neuroscience. Currently serving as the Head of the Peripheral Interface Neuromodulation Team at the Bionics Institute since November 2015, Sophie leads innovative research focused on the development of technologies aimed at treating or diagnosing diseases of the peripheral nervous system. Previous roles include Senior Research Fellow and Research Fellow, where Sophie investigated vagal nerve stimulation for inflammatory bowel disease. Prior to joining the Bionics Institute, Sophie worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne, concentrating on urogenital organ repair and function restoration after nerve injury. Sophie's academic foundation includes a PhD from The University of Western Australia, where research investigated the effects of myelin and myelinating glia on optic nerve injury, complemented by a Bachelor's degree and Honors in Neuroscience from the same institution.
