Michael Liss

Michael Liss serves as the Senior Director of Synthetic Biology at BioNTech SE since July 2022, contributing expertise in biotechnology and pharmaceutical innovations. Prior to this role, Liss was the Senior Manager of R&D at Thermo Fisher Scientific from March 2014 to June 2022, where responsibilities included leading multi-disciplinary teams and advancing synthetic biology product development. At Life Technologies, from April 2010 to February 2014, Liss managed the transition of an R&D team to a global scale and enhanced gene synthesis processes. His earlier experience as a Senior Scientist at Geneart AG involved developing high-throughput gene synthesis workflows and synthetic library portfolios. Liss began as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Regensburg, focusing on biochip technology, after earning a PhD in Molecular Biology and Virology from the same institution. Education also includes study at the University of Colorado Boulder.
