Bethany Fortier is an Associate Scientist in Research and Development at IDEXX Laboratories, Inc., headquartered in Westbrook, ME. IDEXX is a global leader in innovation, offering diagnostic products and services for companion animal veterinary, livestock and poultry, water testing, and dairy markets. IDEXX employs approximately 9,300 people and offers products to customers in over 175 countries. At IDEXX, Bethany works as part of an interdisciplinary research team to support assay development from the R&D phase through the entire New Product Development process. Bethany is completing her thesis work as a graduate student in a research-intensive M.S. program at Maine Medical Center Research Institute (MCRI) and the University of Southern Maine, under the mentorship of Dr. Lucy Liaw in the Center for Molecular Medicine at MMCRI. Prior to joining the program, Bethany was a secondary science educator in Maine for 15 years and holds dual certification in both the life and physical sciences. She earned her B.S. in Biology, as well as her teaching certification, from the University of Maine. Bethany is energized by the diverse, collaborative scientific research going on throughout Maine, and enjoys being actively involved in educational outreach that inspires students to explore careers in STEM.
