Marcus Gastreich

SVP Application Science at BioSolveIT

Marcus Gastreich has worked in a variety of roles since 2000. In 2000, they were a Research Associate at Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf and a Research Associate in Lengauer Lab (Bioinformatics Group) at GMD (now Fraunhofer Institute). At GMD, they performed research on modeling amorphous solids, with a focus on force fields, optimization, and theoretical NMR. Marcus also used Gaussian, Turbomole, GULP, and many more standard tools, and scripted (sh, gawk, python) workflows, conversions and the like for the benefit of the entire team. In 2001, they joined BioSolveIT as Director Application Science, Proxy. In this role, they defined, shaped, and conquered new markets, conceptualized, conceived, and won novel UX/UI projects, actively collected and identified client needs, and exceeded expectations in SCRUM setup. Marcus also co-established their own distribution channel from scratch, including forecasting of sales figures, drove development of new GUIs, and authored, presented, and demoed in all kinds of formats in front of customers, scientists, and board level around the globe. In addition, they were Principal Application Scientist, Proxy, where they were a key influencer of current and future product strategies and business directions by interfacing between clients/development, mining new market areas, accurately forecasting sales successes including global distributor partnerships, and building up and developing long-term strategic alliances. Finally, they were Application Scientist, where they were responsible for all chemistry-related topics in the company. Marcus conducted research and implementation projects with Big Pharma throughout Europe, and improved chemical model in docking software.

Marcus Gastreich obtained their PhD (s.c.l.) in Theoretical Chemistry (main) and Bioinformatics (2nd) from The University of Bonn between 1987 and 2001. In 1999, they completed a research stay at Imperial College London in Materials Science.
