Joanna Smiley

Joanna Smiley is an experienced professional in medical writing, communications, and technology commercialization. Currently serving as the Innovation Advancement Coordinator at the University of Connecticut, Joanna supports entrepreneurial initiatives and programming to promote UConn's innovations. As the Founder and President of Joanna Smiley LLC, Joanna specializes in writing for the medical and biotechnology sectors and has worked with institutions like Yale University School of Medicine and Northeastern University. Previous roles include Senior Editor at WebMD, where Joanna managed relationships with renowned physician authors, and Senior Science Writer at the University of Pittsburgh, focusing on biotech marketing. Joanna's career also includes founding a nonprofit to teach at-risk youth journalism skills and contributing to various publications as a freelance writer, including BioSpace and BusinessWest. Joanna Smiley holds a Bachelor's degree in Professional Writing from Carnegie Mellon University and completed additional studies at The Johns Hopkins University.
