Morten O. A. Sommer's work experience includes being a Professor and Scientific Director at the Technical University of Denmark since August 2010. Morten O. A. is also a Co-Founder and CSO at UNION therapeutics A/S since October 2011, where they focus on developing treatments for immunology and infectious diseases. Morten is a Board Member at Novozymes since March 2022, where they contribute to the research and development of industrial enzymes and biopharmaceutical ingredients. Morten O. A. is also a Co-Founder at UTILITY therapeutics, Clinical Microbiomics, SNIPR Biome - A CRISPR Company, and Biosyntia. Furthermore, they served as the Vice Chairman at Medicon Valley Alliance from April 2014 to May 2019. Prior to these roles, Morten was the Founder of Microlytic, where they developed innovative life science tools for the structural biology market and successfully secured VC financing. Morten O. A. also worked as a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School, focusing on computational models of microbial metabolism and resistance genes in the gut microbiota.

Morten O. A. Sommer completed their undergraduate education at Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen from 2000 to 2004, where they obtained a M.Sc. degree in Physics and Biophysics. During this time, they also studied at Caltech from 2002 to 2003, focusing on Applied Physics and Microfluidics. Subsequently, they pursued further education at Harvard University, where they earned a Ph.D. in Biophysics from 2005 to 2008.
