Garret Batten

Garret Batten serves as an Upper School History Teacher at The Birch Wathen Lenox School since September 2022 and has been a Member of the Board at the MJPM Foundation since January 2016, focusing on conservation and local community needs. Previous experiences include roles as a Substitute Teacher in History at The Browning School and The Spence School, where responsibilities involved classroom management and curriculum development. Batten's extensive background includes serving as Assistant Director at Project Pericles, managing national initiatives related to civic engagement and social justice, and holding consulting positions at the Ford Foundation, where work included the management of The Difficult Dialogues Initiative, addressing key social issues post-9/11. Academic qualifications comprise a BA in Sociology from Kenyon College, an M.A. in Sociology from New York University, and professional development coursework at Teachers College, Columbia University.
