Birmingham Museum of Art
Katelyn Crawford serves as The William Cary Hulsey Curator of American Art at the Birmingham Museum of Art since August 2017, following a role as Assistant Curator of American Art at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art from 2014 to 2017. Katelyn's academic background includes a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in History of Art and Architecture and a Master of Arts (M.A.) in the same field from the University of Virginia, where studies spanned from 2010 to 2017. Additionally, Katelyn holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in American History and Art History from Columbia University. Earlier positions include a Luce/ACLS Dissertation Fellow at the Henry Luce Foundation Inc. and a Terra Foundation Predoctoral Fellow in American Art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, as well as a Graduate Curatorial Intern at the New-York Historical Society.

Founded in 1951, the Birmingham Museum of Art has one of the finest collections in the Southeast. More than 26,000 objects displayed and housed within the Museum represent a rich panorama of cultures, including Asian, European, American, African, Pre-Columbian, and Native American. Highlights include the Museum’s collection of Asian art, Vietnamese ceramics, the Kress collection of Renaissance and Baroque paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts from the late 13th century to the 1750s, and the Museum’s world-renowned collection of Wedgwood, the largest outside of England.
