Chris Pfefferkorn

Chris Pfefferkorn serves as the President & CEO of Birmingham Zoo, Inc. since July 2015, following a tenure as Senior Vice President. Previously, Chris held the position of Deputy Director of Living Collections at Oregon Zoo from June 2010 to June 2015, overseeing various divisions including Animal Care and Conservation. Chris was the Executive Director of Chipangali Carnivore Research Institute from January 2003 to 2013, where an international conservation 501(c)(3) was established to support efforts in Zimbabwe. Earlier in the career, Chris was the General Curator at Ellen Trout Zoo from May 1994 to June 1997, managing a large animal collection and staff development. Chris began military service as a Combat Medic in the U.S. Army Reserves from June 1986 to July 1992, participating in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Eureka College, earned between 1987 and 1990.
