In 2015, they founded and became the President of BitAML, a compliance advisory firm specializing in serving the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency market. The company offers services such as preparing AML, cybersecurity, and consumer protection policies, conducting independent AML reviews, and providing compliance support and training for financial institutions in the cryptocurrency space.
Prior to BitAML, Ciccolo co-created and launched an Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) unit within the BSA Department of a top 100 financial institution while working as a Bank Compliance Analyst. Joseph Ciccolo, CAMS, AMLCA completed their Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University, where they studied from 1999 to 2004. In addition to their undergraduate education, they have also obtained two certifications in the field of anti-money laundering. In January 2014, they became a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) through the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS). Prior to that, in May 2012, they achieved the Anti-Money Laundering Certified Associate (AMLCA) designation from the Florida International Bankers Association (FIBA).
