Samir Satchu has extensive work experience in the fields of public policy, regulatory affairs, and fintech.
From November 2021, they have been working as the SVP of Public Policy & Expansion at BitOasis, a leading virtual asset platform in the UAE. Their role includes engaging with policy-makers, regulators, and strategic partners to advocate for the benefits of enabling virtual asset activity.
Prior to BitOasis, Samir worked as an Advisor in the fintech sector from May 2020 to October 2021. Before that, they were associated with Careem, where they held the position of Senior Director of Public Policy & Regulatory for their ride-hailing and fintech businesses. From January 2017 to May 2020, they led Careem's public policy function across all 14 markets.
Starting from January 2015, Samir founded PesaZetu, a peer-to-peer platform for mobile credit in Kenya. Samir successfully connected creditworthy low income borrowers with local lenders.
Samir also has experience in the legal field. Samir founded Satchu & Associates/Satchu & Zhouand, full-service commercial and corporate law firms in Kabul, Afghanistan. Their expertise involved advising clients in telecommunications, oil and gas, mining, and working with international organizations such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
Earlier in their career, Samir served as the General Counsel & Head of Government Affairs at Roshan, Afghanistan's largest mobile network operator. Samir was responsible for legal matters and government relations for the company.
