As senior vice president and general counsel for BJC HealthCare, Sally Terrace is responsible for the provision of legal services throughout BJC’s hospitals and service organizations. She also oversees risk management, corporate compliance and audit services.
Terrace joined BJC’s legal department in 1999, and served as vice president of compliance from 2011 until she was promoted to deputy general counsel in 2016. In 2019 management of the compliance department was again added to her responsibilities. In her legal and compliance roles she lead numerous attorneys and compliance professionals, working toward fostering a culture of compliance and open communications within BJC. Her legal and compliance responsibilities included corporate governance and general corporate issues, hospital operations issues, litigation management, real estate, graduate medical education, external government investigations, treasury, tax, financial assistance, clinical trials and other research, billing and regulatory matters.
In addition to her experience at BJC, she was deputy general counsel for Washington University, leading the legal services provided to the School of Medicine from 1993 to 1999 and in-house counsel for the Jewish Hospital of St. Louis from 1990-1993. She also served as general counsel of the American College of Surgeons and was in private practice for a number of years.
Terrace serves as a mentor to many through formal and informal programs. Terrace also serves as the executive sponsor of the 2022 Women’s Connection Group.
Terrace holds both a Juris Doctor and a Master of Public Health from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
