Roy Smith M.D. has a diverse work experience spanning several years. Roy currently serves as the Medical Director at Black Bear Lodge Treatment Center. Prior to this, they worked as a Staff Physician at Pavillon from 2014 to 2020. Roy also had the role of SC chapter ASAM President at ASAM from 2010 to 2016. Roy served as the Medical Director at LRADAC- Detox and outpatient Treatment Center from 2011 to 2014. Before that, they operated their own private practice as a Physician at Roy Smith Family Clinic from 2009 to 2014. Roy began their career in the United States Air Force as a Flight Surgeon- Physician- Officer, serving from 1992 to 2000.
Roy Smith M.D. completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, General at The Citadel from 1981 to 1985. Roy then pursued their Medical Doctor degree at the Medical University of South Carolina from 1985 to 1992, specializing in Family Medicine through the Residency Program.

Patients who have experienced the FRN treatment model are twice as likely to maintain sobriety one year post-treatment as compared those who have attended traditional programs. Because Black Bear Lodge is part of the Foundations Recovery Network family of treatment centers, we are able to provide continuing care for patients graduating from our residential programs. Located nearby in central Georgia, Foundations Atlanta offers patients a place to attend Intensive Outpatient Program sessions as they step back into everyday life and continue the work of recovery.
