Phil Kurtz

As Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary, Phil Kurtz is responsible for BlackBerry’s global legal affairs, including governance, contracting, compliance, litigation, risk management and strategic transactions.

Phil has over 20 years of corporate and securities law experience. He joined BlackBerry in 2009 and has held roles of progressive seniority including, most recently, Vice President, Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary. Previously, Phil was a partner at VenGrowth Private Equity Partners and an associate at McCarthy Tétrault LLP in Toronto. He also served as a director of CiF Lab Solutions.

Phil holds LLB and MBA degrees from the University of Toronto and a BA from The University of Western Ontario, and he is a CFA charterholder. In 2012, Phil was a recipient of the Forty Under 40 Award from the Ottawa Business Journal and Ottawa Chamber of Commerce.
