Whitney Bates is an experienced educator specializing in art, currently serving as an Applied Art Teacher at East Greenwich School Department since August 2022. With a substantial tenure as an Art Teacher at Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy since August 2013, Whitney has also held positions such as High School Art Teacher at Pawtucket School Department and Art Teacher at The Learning Community/Providence CityArts for Youth. Earlier experience includes roles as a Teaching Artist at Providence CityArts for Youth and Art Program Director/Lead Art Instructor at the Town of Colonie Summer Enrichment Program. Whitney holds a Master of Arts in Art Teacher Education from Boston University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Alfred University, with minors in Art Education and Art History.

Blackstone Valley Prep (BVP) is an intentionally diverse network of tuition-free public schools chartered by the Rhode Island Department of Education. BVP offers a high-quality public school choice to the families of Central Falls, Cumberland, Lincoln, and Pawtucket, and currently serves 2,300 scholars, ages 5-22, across six schools.
