Laser Systems Application Engineer at Block Engineering Inc

Andrew Mendizabal has a diverse work experience spanning a wide range of industries.

Andrew started their career as an Administrative Assistant at The Learning Place LLC. from 2012 to 2016, where they handled various administrative tasks and provided assistance in classrooms when needed.

In 2015, Andrew worked as a Scout Store Employee at the Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America, and later became a STEM Day Camp Counselor in 2016.

In 2018, they worked as a Research Associate at Historic Royal Palaces, collaborating on accessibility research at the Tower of London.

Andrew also gained experience as an Optical Coating Intern at IPG Photonics in 2018, where they focused on quality assurance of optical components.

Andrew served as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Physics Department's Terahertz Lab from 2017 to 2019, and as a Research Intern at FM Global in 2019, working on various projects related to sprinkler activation detection and electrical hazards.

From 2017 to 2020, Andrew held two roles at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Physics Department, first as a Graduate Research Assistant, assisting Professor Titova in experiments related to conductivity and photoluminescence, and later as a Physics Lab PLA, providing instruction and guidance to students in freshmen-level physics lab courses.

Most recently, Andrew joined IQE in 2021 as part of the Characterization Engineering Team. Their responsibilities included characterizing semiconductor wafers throughout the production process, process development, wafer handling, process control, technician management and training, preventative maintenance, defect identification, and communication workflow coordination.

In 2022, Andrew joined Block Engineering as a Laser Systems Application Engineer.

Throughout their career, Andrew has gained expertise in various techniques and equipment, such as electrochemical capacitance voltage profiling, photoluminescence spectroscopy, surface profilometers, E-Beam vaporators, X-Ray diffraction, and sheet resistance mapping. Andrew is knowledgeable in semiconductor thickness, doping, carrier mobility, charge carrier density, and processed semiconductor wafers.

Andrew Mendizabal completed their education with a Master's degree in Physics from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2020. Prior to that, they obtained their Bachelor's degree in Physics from the same institution in 2019. Andrew's educational journey began at Ponaganset High School, where they completed the Honors program with a concentration in science and math, and graduated with a High School Diploma in 2015.
