Priyanka Bhattacharya

Sr. Manager Battery R&D at Blue Current

Priyanka Bhattacharya has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of battery research and materials engineering. Priyanka is currently working as a Senior Manager of Battery R&D at Blue Current, Inc. since January 2023. Previously, they held roles at Tesla, starting as a Senior Cell Research Engineer from January 2018 to September 2022, and then as a Staff Materials Engineer from September 2022 to February 2023.

Prior to Tesla, Bhattacharya worked as a Research Scientist at the University of Dayton Research Institute, starting in March 2016 and continuing until January 2018. In this role, they focused on materials development for various types of batteries including solid-state, flexible, and functional lithium-ion batteries. Priyanka implemented innovative approaches to improve battery performance, such as employing a newly designed solid electrolyte coated separator to enhance the cycle life of lithium-sulfur batteries.

Bhattacharya also gained valuable experience as a Linus Pauling Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory from October 2012 to October 2015. During their tenure, they explored the use of dendritic polymer architecture for energy storage, synthesized hybrid organic-inorganic materials for energy applications, and designed liquid catholytes for Li-sulfur redox flow batteries.

Furthermore, Bhattacharya served as a Graduate Research Assistant at Clemson University from August 2008 to August 2012, where they developed polymeric nanomaterials for environmental remediation and sensing. Priyanka also conducted research on the environmental effects of quantum dots on aquatic organisms.

Overall, Priyanka Bhattacharya's work experience exhibits their expertise in battery research, materials development, and environmental science.

Priyanka Bhattacharya pursued their education in physics, specializing in this field. Priyanka completed their Master of Science (MS) degree in physics at the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee from 2006 to 2008. In 2008, they further advanced their education by enrolling at Clemson University where they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in physics, graduating in 2012.
