Mat Armstrong has held various positions in the professional world since 2010. Mat began their career as a Moving Assistant at Armstrong Moving & Storage, where they worked with Owner-Operators and warehouse staff to complete moves while assisting customers with moving-related needs and engaging with them in conversation in both French and English. Mat traveled across Canada and the United States, learning to adapt to new working environments and teammates and co-ordinated with members of the moving team to complete jobs efficiently and safely, developing skills in teamwork and conflict resolution in cases of disagreement or hostility. In 2015, they became co-Editor-in-Chief and Assistant Editor at Noesis Undergraduate Journal of Philosophy at the University of Toronto, where they adjudicated numerous papers and debated with the editorial board to consider the papers' merits for publishing, citing specific examples of the merits of the work (originality, depth of thought, and solid argumentation). Mat also worked with two papers and their authors, making significant edits in writing style and offering critical analysis of the papers' arguments. In 2016, they became a Teaching Assistant at the University of Toronto. Finally, in 2017, they joined Blue J as a Director of Customer Success, Senior Relationship Manager, Enterprise Client Enablement Manager, and Customer Success Representative. Mat also held a position as a Legal Analyst.
Mat Armstrong attended the University of Toronto from 2013 to 2017, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) with majors in Philosophy and English.
