Kira Rienecker

Experimental Support Scientist at Blue Marble Space Institute of Science

Kira Rienecker, PhD, is an accomplished experimental support scientist at the Blue Marble Space Institute of Science, contributing to the Lunar Explorer Instrument for space biology Applications (LEIA) project since January 2022. Previously, Kira worked as a staff scientist at NASA Ames Bone and Signaling Laboratory, bringing in over $200k in grants and collaborating on spaceflight biology devices. Kira’s postdoctoral work at the University of California, San Francisco focused on the cognitive and behavioral effects of space stressors, while a postdoctoral researcher role at UC Merced involved studying immediate early genes related to neuronal adaptability. Kira earned a PhD in Integrative Neuroscience from Cardiff University, where independent research encompassed behavior and molecular biology, along with multiple peer-reviewed publications and presentations at international conferences.
