Sanjoy Som

Sanjoy Som is the founder and director of the Blue Marble Space Institute of Science, a community focused on building a sustainable future and promoting scientific interest among the public. Sanjoy also served as a systems engineer for the Fruit Fly Lab at NASA Ames Research Center, where they conducted long-duration spaceflight experiments using the common fruit fly. Prior to that, they were a post-doctoral fellow at NASA Ames Research Center and a graduate student researcher at the University of Washington, where they studied Earth and Space Sciences. Som also volunteered at the Space Generation Advisory Council and worked as a research scientist/engineer at ESA/ESTEC.

Sanjoy Som's education history begins with the completion of a Swiss Maturité Fédérale from Ecole Internationale De Geneve - La Chataigneraie, specializing in Type C (Scientific) studies from 1985 to 1998. Sanjoy then pursued a B.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering at the Florida Institute of Technology, graduating with highest honors between 1999 and 2002. Sanjoy went on to earn an M.Sc. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the University of Washington from 2002 to 2004. Continuing their academic journey, they obtained a Ph.D. in Planetary Sciences and Astrobiology from the same institution, completing their studies between 2004 and 2010. In 2012, Sanjoy attended the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, participating in the Program in Innovation and Entrepreneurship (PRIE), now known as Stanford Ignite, focusing on Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurial Studies. In addition to their formal education, Sanjoy Som has obtained various certifications, including Ethics in Science and Society from Sciworthy in December 2022, Statistics with Python Specialization from Coursera in June 2020, The Ancient Greeks from Coursera in May 2013, and Astrobiology and the Search for Extraterrestrial Life from Coursera in March 2013.
