Nicholas Wellner

Nicholas Wellner is an experienced aerospace engineer currently serving as the Orbital Reef Director of Vehicle Design at Blue Origin, where responsibilities include overseeing the design, build, qualification, and delivery of the vehicle's structures, mechanisms, thermal, electrical, and guidance systems. Previously, Wellner held the role of Structures and Mechanisms Senior Manager at Blue Origin and served as Structures and Mechanisms IPT Lead for Space Destinations at Barrios Technology, LTD. A former Section Manager and Senior Engineer at Lockheed Martin, Wellner contributed significantly to the Orion Side hatch design reviews for Exploration Mission 2. Early career experiences include positions at Boeing, where oversight of structural dynamic verification for the International Space Station was crucial, as well as internships with the Air Force Research Laboratory and Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division. Wellner holds a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Purdue University.
