Thiwanka B. Samarakoon

Thiwanka B. Samarakoon has a strong background in medicinal chemistry, with experience in various roles at different pharmaceutical companies. From July 2010 to November 2012, Thiwanka worked at Deciphera Pharmaceuticals as a Senior Scientist I in Medicinal Chemistry. Their responsibilities included lead design and optimization for potency, selectivity, ADME properties, and oral bioavailability in three kinase programs. This work led to the introduction of two candidates for phase 1 clinical trials.

From July 2013 to July 2020, Thiwanka joined H3 Biomedicine, starting as an Investigator I and later progressing to Investigator II in Medicinal Chemistry. During their time at H3 Biomedicine, Thiwanka gained further experience and expertise in their field.

Currently, Thiwanka is working at Blueprint Medicines since August 2020. They started in the role of Principal Scientist in Medicinal Chemistry and were later promoted to the position of Senior Principal Scientist. The specific responsibilities and achievements in these roles are not provided.

Thiwanka B. Samarakoon has a Bachelor of Science (Honors in Chemistry) degree from the University of Peradeniya, which was earned from 1998 to 2002. Later, Thiwanka pursued a PhD in Chemistry from The University of Kansas from 2004 to 2010. Following the completion of the PhD, Thiwanka engaged in post-doctoral research at the University of Kansas in 2012. Thiwanka also attended Trinity College in Kandy, Sri Lanka, from 1985 to 1995.
