Michael Torrance is the Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer at BMO Financial Group, where responsibilities include leading the sustainability strategy and programs for the enterprise since January 2018. Previously, Michael served as a Partner at Norton Rose Fulbright from May 2006 to January 2018, providing legal advice to corporations on domestic and international human resources, occupational health and safety, and human rights law, with a focus on international sustainability standards and risk management. Michael is also recognized for publishing works on international human rights, sustainability, and transnational law. Educational qualifications include an LL.M. in Law from York University - Osgoode Hall Law School, a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from the same institution, and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Commerce and Political Science from the University of Calgary.
