Markus Wendeler has a strong work history in the pharmaceutical industry. Markus joined Boehringer Ingelheim in 2015 and has held several positions within the company since then. Markus started as the Head of the Bioassay Skill Center before being promoted to Director of Analytical Development Biologicals. In 2018, they became the Vice President and Department Head of Analytical Development Biologicals, where they were responsible for the characterization and quality control of the company's Biologicals pipeline. Markus is currently the Vice President and Department Head of Bioprocess Development Biologicals, a role they assumed in 2022. Prior to Boehringer Ingelheim, Markus worked at Novartis as an Analytical Lead and Technical Project Manager from 2012 to 2014, and as a Fellow from 2007 to 2012.
Markus Wendeler holds a Diplom degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Cologne, which they obtained from 1993 to 1999. Markus also spent a year as an Erasmus student at the University of Manchester in the UK, studying Cell Physiology from 1996 to 1997. Markus then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Freie Universität Berlin from 1999 to 2003. Finally, they completed their Postdoc at the Biozentrum Basel/Switzerland, specializing in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology from 2004 to 2007.
