Hessel van der Werff has a diverse work experience. Hessel started their career in 2000 with various roles at Opel, including being a taxichauffeur, autopoetser, and tankstationbediende. In 2004, they worked as a student-assistant for primary processes and as a student-researcher at Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. In 2005, they completed an internship at Henk Van Tongeren bv. From 2007 to 2010, they worked at DTZ Zadelhoff v.o.f. as a real estate agent and completed a commercial traineeship. Hessel then joined Prysmian Group in 2010 as a plant controller and later became a project manager for a green belt six sigma project. Since 2015, they have been working at Bollegraaf Recycling Solutions, initially as a project manager and later as the head of project management, product manager, manager of R&D and product management, and currently as the Director of the Business Unit BSS.

Hessel van der Werff has a diverse education history. Hessel obtained their MScBA/ Drs. degree in Business Administration, with a specialization in master small business & entrepreneurship, from the University of Groningen in the years 1999-2006. In 2007-2008, they pursued further education at SVMNIVO, where they earned a KRMT degree in Engineering, specifications & construction-drawings, legal aspects 1 & 2, finances & taxes, and economy. Hessel returned to the University of Groningen for their second MScBA/ Drs. degree, this time specializing in financial value management, which they completed during the same period of 1999-2006. In 2012, they attended SDA Bocconi for an Operations Management Course organized in collaboration with the Prysmian Group Academy. Later, in 2014-2015, Hessel completed Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Training at the Prysmian Group Academy in collaboration with R&G Global Consultants.

In terms of additional certifications, Hessel obtained a VOL VCA (Veiligheid voor Operationeel Leidinggevenden) certification from The Training Company in April 2015. Hessel also became a Lean Six Sigma Certified Green Belt through R&G Global Consultants in December 2014.

Looking ahead, Hessel has plans to pursue studies in hydraulics at ROVC Technische Opleidingen in 2022. In the same year, they will also be attending SBO Studiecentrum voor Bedrijf en Overheid to study waste management/resource management, with completion expected in 2023.
