Mary Heuett Oemig has a long and varied career in the legal field. Mary began their career in 1998 as a Law Clerk for The Honorable D. Lowell Jensen, N.D. California US District Court, where they worked on notable published opinions. In 1999, they became an Associate at Fenwick and West, providing copyright counseling and substantive legal analysis. In 2002, they moved to Microsoft as a Senior Attorney, where they were a strategic counselor to nearly every group in the company on copyright, trade secret, and related intermediary liability matters. In 2006, they became Of Counsel at Ragen Swan PLLC, counseling a variety of Microsoft teams on copyright, trade secret, rights of publicity and related matters. In 2011, they founded and launched Boom Learning, a platform and marketplace for teachers to transform paper resources into mini-apps. As Chief Executive Officer, they led a rapidly scaling business that grew by over 30x in 2020 without scaling failures. Mary has deep expertise in product strategy, intellectual property and privacy, with years of working with companies ranging in size from start ups to mega-corporations.

Mary Heuett Oemig obtained their JD from the University of California, Berkeley - School of Law in 1998. Mary graduated with a BA in English-Creative Writing from the University of Idaho in 1991. In addition, they have obtained certifications as an Attorney and Counselor from the Bar Association of the District of Columbia and the Washington State Bar Association.
