Boston Athenæum
John Buchtel has over 17 years of experience working in various roles in libraries and educational institutions. John most recently served as the Curator of Rare Books and Head of Special Collections at the Boston Athenæum, starting in June 2018. Prior to that, they spent 10 years as the Director of The Booth Family Center for Special Collections at Georgetown University Library. John also worked as a Curator of Rare Books at The Johns Hopkins University from 2004 to 2008 and as a Curator of Collections at Rare Book School from 2001 to 2003.
John Buchtel earned a Master's Degree in English from Case Western Reserve University from 1994 to 1996. Subsequently, they pursued higher education at the University of Virginia, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in English from 1996 to 2004.

Boston Athenæum
The Boston Athenæum, “Boston’s best kept secret” (Boston.com) and one of the most distinguished libraries in the nation, was founded in 1807. Its landmark 1849 building and architecturally significant reading rooms at 10½ Beacon Street welcome readers, thinkers, writers, and learners in the heart of Boston.
