Heather Leary has a diverse range of work experience in the legal field. Heather started their career as an Attorney specializing in disability, family, and landlord-tenant law at Indiana Legal Services in 1998. During their time there, they also initiated an Administrative Law Clinic with the help of AmeriCorps Volunteers. In 2000, Heather became the Executive Director of Bartholomew Area Legal Aid, where they oversaw the growth of a small non-profit organization serving low-income clients in rural Indiana. Heather successfully increased funding from granting sources and expanded the service area from 1 to 4 counties. In 2002, they joined the Boston Bar Association as the CLE Managing Attorney, responsible for continuing legal education programs. Heather later took on the role of Director of Membership, where they significantly grew the membership by over 30% and established partnerships with various bar associations and law schools. Since 2015, Heather has been serving as the Assistant Executive Director of the Boston Bar Association, identifying strategic growth opportunities and overseeing effective operations. Recently, they have taken on the additional role of Chief Operating Officer.
Heather Leary attended Indiana University Bloomington from 1991 to 1995, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science & History. Heather then pursued further education at Indiana University Maurer School of Law from 1995 to 1998, where they obtained a Doctor of Law (JD) degree.
