Aiyer commenced a career in the Indian Administrative Service from 1981 to 1983. Aiyer's educational background includes an MBA in Finance from Harvard Business School, an MA in Sociology from the Delhi School of Economics, and a BA (Hons) in Psychology from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi. Aiyer also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
